Note: Constable Carroll was killed in a traffic accident near the workhouse in Douglas on 14 September 1920 after he and two other members of the Auxiliary police commandeered the van of a Cork timber and iron company. While speeding in this vehicle, the three Black and Tans had a fatal accident in which the driver Constable Carroll was killed and two other people were injured. See CE, 15 Sept. 1920.
